8 Rankins La Melbourne 3000 VIC

So it seems that Manchester Press is on the right track. Located at the end of what seems to be becoming Melbourne’s hottest lane-way, Rankins Lane. Where only the coolest of cats hang and shop (Comeback Kid, which teamed with Manchester Press makes the lane one of the best shop + cafe combos in the city.) the only way to get in is via a roller door, it feels like you are walking into your best friends garage/man cave. Once inside you realise that a lot of effort has gone into making Manchester Press look effortless. I like this. The other thing you’ll notice, well you will now that have pointed it out, is that everything is hand made/ custom made. Tables are all custom made from what seems to be found timber, the stools look amazing and even the menus are clear Perspex with every item individually printed by a dymo label maker. They only have a handful of them at the moment due to the time consuming process but Joshua (manager/barista/top bloke) said that they do them in their downtime, which from what I saw won’t happen very often. I guess the whole look of the place can be summarized as: modern industrial chic. There I said it. I know I’m going on a bit about the design but to me, as I’m sure you know, design is important to me.

Now. The Coffee.
They have there own blended roasted in Brisbane, named 8-ounce. I ordered a double ristretto, the it was pulled a bit long for my liking but never the less it was still good.
As a bonus latte art is drawn on individually for everybody’s first coffee at Manchester Press. However I got more then one. Because I’m awesome. The pictures are awesome too. Me thinks Joshua is an artist posing as a barista.
The menu is an inbetweener. Not full blown, but still plenty on offer from the small kitchen: gourmet bagels, muesli and wait for it… COCO POPS WITH MILK. BRILLIANT. In saying that, I had a Bircher muesli, just to feel a little healthier, and it was just delectable.
Manchester Press is a really nice place in the cbd that takes away that standard city feel and throws you into a trendy inner city suburb.
(Joshua told me a few of the plans they have for the space and they sounds awesome, hopefully I get an invite :P) If you are looking for a great coffee and place to have a seat in the city. This is it.

And I am fucking sick of going to NEW cafes that open and furnish the place with torn couches from Savers. That is so fucking 2001. This is how it should be done, thought has gone into everything and the place looks FUCKING AMAZING. WITHOUT OLD FUCKING COUCHES.
